What Is ASMR?
ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) is a relatively new discovery in the world of relaxation. ASMR describes a feeling of encapsulating tingling and calmness achieved through hearing (or even thinking about) certain sounds.
ASMR videos or audio clips not usually the ordinary relaxation sounds, such as whale singing and waves, but instead a collection of simple calming tasks.
These tasks could be folding towels, eating soft fruits, even hair brushing. Often ASMR audio clips depict sounds of tasks that are usually considered relaxing in their own right.
How ASMR Impacts Sleep.
Progressive muscle relaxation techniques for stress and other stress relief techniques before bed are gaining in popularity as the importance of quality sleep comes to light.
ASMR is a fantastic meditative like technique to use in the quest for getting a good night's rest.
Suffering from mental health, stress, and generalized sleep disorders can have a huge impact on health and it can be difficult to find ways to overcome them.
ASMR videos and audio clips, although not a mainstream suggestion, can most definitely help may people wind down, relax and destress. The sessions are usually long, often up to an hour, allowing the listener to gradually drift off into sleep.
Those who use ASMR for sleep say that it greatly improves their ability to fall asleep, stay asleep and feel well-rested in the morning.
Why Not Everyone Feels The Same.
It must be noted the ASMR does not work for everyone, and to many ASMR audio has little to no effect on their relaxation levels.
The working mechanisms behind ASMR are not clear and why the practice works for some people and not others is not something that can be easily defined.
Much like meditation, it might take some time to feel the effects of ASMR and to benefit from its relaxation-inducing applications.
A note to leave with.
If looking for a new and intriguing way to help you to get better sleep and relax, ASMR is definitely something to try.
Whilst the thought of listing to quite ordinary sounds resulting in complete mind and body relaxation seems strange, many people can not speak highly enough of the practice and regard it as impactful on their sleep as any other relaxation technique that they have tried.
It might work for you, it might not, but there is only one way to find out – grab some headphones and enjoy!
